PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VIRGINIA

WILLIAM CHICK FAMILY

William Chick of Pittsylvania County came there from Caroline County, Virginia. He settled on Straitstone Creek in what was then Halifax County in the northeast corner of present day Pittsylvania County. His wife's name was Susannah. He had at least five sons and two daughters as follows:


William Chick, b. before 1761 lived in Halifax County


Richard Chick, b. before 1763 lived in both Halifax and Pittsylvania County


Susannah Chick, m. James King before 1776. In 1776 she had two children and was pregnant with a son at that time. She must have also died at a young age, because there is no mention of her after 1776.


Hardin Chick, b. before 1768


Anderson Chick, b. before 1771, married Lucy Brown 9 October, 1792. She was the daughter of James Brown and Joanna Nevil of Buckingham County and the sister of John Brown that lived just across and upriver in Campbell County, Virginia. They left the area ca 1810 and moved to Madison County, Georgia and later to Walton County, Georgia, where they both died testate.

Lucy Chick, married William Mckennie 26 September, 1786.


The records herein are abstracts from searching early Caroline, Bedford, Halifax, Pittsylvania and Campbell County records. Caroline County records are very sparse. Halifax records have not been fully searched and may yield more information.

27 August, 1832. Knox County, Kentucky, aged 72 on 14 May, 1832 (born 14 May, 1760). Enrolled in 1776 at age 16 in King and Queen County, Virginia. In 1781 moved to King William County.
