SIZEMORE FAMILY

Summary Various Sizemore Families

COMMENTS

Mary / Marjory / Margaret Sizemore. Due to the similarity of the names, I have lumped these together. An Internet source places her in Brunswick Co., VA in a 1741 tax list (I am not aware of this list and have never seen it.) She entered land on Wynn’s Cr. in 1743. She obtained a 370 acre patent in 1751 from the Colony of Virginia; and sold the land in 1756. She is shown as an adjacent landowner through 1765. There are no records or her after 1765. Sources conflict but appear to show this line as a branch of Sizemore DNA Project, Subgroup Q (Many FTDNA Test Kits).

William Sizemore. William Sizemore first appears in a 1741 survey. He subsequently appears in the 1748 tithables list in Lunenburg Co. He appears in deed records starting in 1756. He left the area ca 1774. His land was just to the southwest of Marjory Sizemore’s land (2 tracts separate these tracts). William first had land granted near Winn’s Cr. He lived in Mecklenburg Co by 1764, but likely as early as 1756. It is clear from the deed records that William who had land near Marjory was one and the same as William who settled on Buffalo Cr. One would think that this William would likewise test in the Sizemore DNA Project, Subgroup Q, if we had a proven lineal descendant.

Henry Sizemore. Henry Sizemore first appears in the 1748 tithables list in Lunenburg Co. The received a land patent in 1751 from the Colony of Virginia. He sold this land also in 1751 and quickly fades out of the records.

John Sizemore. John Sizemore first appears in 1767 in two Land Entries in Halifax County. He subsequently had two different tracts surveyed for him in 1771. He settled on Aaron’s Cr. just to the west of William Sizemore’s land on Buffalo Cr. William is the right age to be John’s father and is geographically very close. However, the Sizemore DNA Project have John Sizemore placed in Subgroup I-1. There are no similarities between Subgroup Q and Subgroup I-1.

Daniel Sizemore. Daniel Sizemore Sr. (1764-1842) of Mecklenburg Co., VA is believed to be the father of Daniel Sizemore, Jr. (1787-1879) of Mecklenburg Co., VA . Wallace Sizemore, a descendant of both and three others have been tested and his test results show that they are descendants of a Vaughan male. They have been assigned to Subgroup R in the Sizemore DNA Project (and do not match any other members in Subgroup R). Wallace Sizemore, has been assigned to the Vaughan DNA Project Cyan Subgroup

Another Sizemore descendant traces to Daniel Sizemore, b . 1834 in Mecklenburg Co. and has been assigned to Sizemore DNA Subgroup B. It is my understanding that this person is an African-American.

All of the above Sizemores lived within a very few miles of each other and yet the DNA test results are quite divergent.
