VIRGINIA ROBERT KING, JR. FAMILY AND SOME DESCENDANTS Of Spotsylvania, Albemarle, Halifax & Pittsylvania Counties Deeds and Timeline |
|||||
Robert King was raised in the Spotsylvania County area, the son of Robert King and his wife Mary ______. He last lived in the northeast corner of present day Pittsylvania County, Virginia on Straitstone Cr.. In between, he lived in Albemarle County, Virginia. He died without a will in Spring, 1757 in Halifax County, prior to the formation of Pittsylvania County. He married on 28 February, 1741 to Mary Cason. After she was widowed Mary (Cason) King married a second time to William Collins. She was widowed a second time ca 1778. She paid taxes on 340 acres in Pittsylvania County from 1786 through 1806 at which time she was well into her 80's! In 1757, James Dillard was appointed guardian of Edmund King, orphan of Robert King in Halifax County, Virginia Plea Book 2, Page 231. Strong circumstantial evidence from deed records proves Robert and Mary had at least two more sons: James and Harmon.
Edmund King, married Mary Thomas 23 August, 1770, Pittsylvania County, Virginia. James, married Susannah Chick in the early 1770's, Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Harmon Robert King's son James King had children Mary West and Nancy mentioned in his will, and a posthumously born son James King. The middle name West is perhaps the maiden name of James' mother Mary? The name Harmon provides another clue. Martin King lived a short distance away in Bedford County, Virginia. He also had a son named Harmon and also lived in Albemarle County prior to moving to Bedford County. Albemarle County was formed in 1744 from Goochland County. There are a number of references to an elder Martin King in Goochland County. At this time, these are only clues and I have not completed further research. |
