$100. Allotment No. 3. Land Entitled to as a Distributee of John Hoskins, Deceased, Bounded by Stone, Joel Thomas. Witnesses: Will B. Banks, J Coles Jr, John Light and Peter Vaughan. Recorded 25 December, 1809. Halifax County, Virginia Deed Book 22, Page 279. Joshua Stone and His Wife Mary Stone Deeded Allotment No. 5 to James Bruce. See Halifax County, Virginia Deed Book 22, Page 366. This Is a Very Critical Deed. Understanding it Requires a Little Knowledge of the Hoskins Family. William Hoskins, Father of Nancy Hoskins Made His Will on 18 November, 1780. (Halifax County, Virginia Will Book 1, Page 352.) He Divided His Estate among His Seven Children, Including John Hoskins and Nancy Hoskins Bruce. He Also Provided That If John Hoskins Died Without Any Lawful Heirs (Children), His Portion Would Be Equally Divided among His Living Children. This Is Apparently What Happened and the Siblings (Including Nancy Hoskins Bruce) of John Hoskins Shared in His Estate. This Also Shows That John Bruce, of Pittsylvaniasylvania County, Is the One That Married Nancy Hoskins. The Relationship of James Bruce Is Not Stated and I Have Not Researched this Further.

He Paid Tax on this Land from 1794 to 1804, Missing a Few Years after That. In 1816 John Bruce Paid Taxes on 400 Acres on Waters of Sandy Creek for the Years 1811-1816! There Is No Record of this John Bruce Ever Living in Pittsylvaniasylvania County. My Guess Is That He Lived in Halifax County. When He Sold the Land, He Had to Catch up the Back Taxes.
