Background:

William “T” Vaughan lived on Buffalo Cr. in the very southwest corner of Mecklenburg Co., VA His children and grandchildren settled there and in the very southeast corner of adjacent Halifax Co. He has a huge number of descendants.

Key Sources:

1. The marriage of John Vaughan to his first cousin Nancy Hayes fits perfectly with the ages of their children.

2. The Revolutionary War Pension File of John Arrington W5653; and his widow Susanna f67VA proves John Vaughan in the 1850 Census of Mecklenburg, VA is the son of John Vaughan.

3. In the 1850 Census, John and Nancy have an apparent grandson named Beverly Vaughan, age 14, living with them.

4. Bedford Vaughan married a second time on 31 Aug 1865 to Luanda J. Shepherd in Bedford Co., VA. In that record, he stated his father was John Vaughan and his mother was Nancy Vaughan.

5. Beverly, John and Winkfield Vaughan all moved to TN together then to Greene Co., MO just a few years later in 1847. [Have not found records confirming John was in Greene, MO nor of his marriage to Patsy, believed to be a Chandler.]

6. Ledford Vaughan named a son Beverly J. Vaughan.

7. Ledford, Bedford and Beverly have been long thought to be siblings, but I have not seen any sources to prove that fact.

Observation: The given name Winkfield is exceedingly rare (only 14 in the entire 1850 Census nationally). The simple existence of Winkfield Vaughan who was connected to Beverly Vaughan of southeast Halifax Co., VA lends credibility to him being the son of Nancy Hayes, who was in turn the daughter of Winkfield Hayes.
