WILSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE

VAUGHAN FAMILY

Taxes 1826-1834

First Line = District - Polls; Second Line = Acres of Land (1831-1834 did not use District Numbers, instead using the district militia captain’s name which will not fit easily on this table, so the districts are not identified. They do, however, align nicely with the 1826-1830 district numbers.)

The tax digests for Wilson Co. are very neat and consistent, in fact, they are too neat and consistent. It is evident that many of the tax digests were transcribed into a bound book. The prime evidence is the fact there are two digests labeled 1834. One is “scruffy”; and the other is very neat. A closer look at the “neat” digest shows it is most likely 1854. For one, the people in the tax digests align with the districts the same as the extant 1850s digests. Secondly, Daniel Vaughan in District 6 was but a child in 1834.
