Mortgage Secured by Land Adjacent Samuel Walker, Stephen Smith and Burrel Hudson and One Roan Mare. Loan of $81 Due 25 Dec. Next. Witnesses: Daniel Reed and William Herbin. Recorded 6 Sep., 1808. Note: There Appears to Be No Record of Thomas H. Bruce Purchasing this Land. Perhaps this Was a "Purchase Money" Loan and Thomas H. Bruce Was Purchasing the Land at this Time and Agreeing to Pay $81 Later. Note: Beverly Borroum was born in Virginia, possibly the son of William Borroum and Elizabeth Beverly. As a young child he moved to Edgefield District, South Carolina. In 1800 he settled in Greenville District, South Carolina. In 1844 he moved to Lafeyette County, Mississippi where he died 18 August, 1847. See Bruce Historical Papers #2.33, citing Greenville Mountaineer, 24 December, 1847 and William and Mary Quarterly, Series 2, Vol. 1.297. Note: The Benson family has a number of alliances with the Bruce Family. Daniel Reed is possibly the father of William Reed who married Jemima Kemp granddaughter of Enoch Benson. Enoch Benson was born in Culpeper County, Virginia. In 1785 he moved to Greenville District, South Carolina; and in 1818 he moved to Gwinnett County, Georgia. He sold land to Jeremiah Bruce in 1803 (Book G.39). See Bruce Historical Papers #2.9, citing Enoch Benson's Revolutionary War Pension Application. |
