Note: After 1790 the district in which William Hall lived was cut into Elbert County. There are no early tax digests for Elbert County. There is apparently only one deed in the Deeds or Grants currently on record in either Wilkes or Elbert County for the lands William Hall paid tax on in the 1785 to 1790 period. William Hall increased his land holdings by 575 acres during the period from 1787 to 1790. In 17___, William Hall was granted 575 acres in Franklin County, Georgia. Georgia Surveyor General Grant Book BBBBB, Page 99. Taxes were paid in the county of residence, hence it is very likely the land in Franklin County accounts for the increase in acreage from 1787 to 1790 in the Wilkes County Tax Digests. |
