The district letters are as assigned by him in his book. The numbers are also assigned by him, numbering each person in sequence as that person appears in the tax digest.

Moses Mathews, often (incorrectly) said to be the father of William Mathews of Oglethorpe County, appears starting in 1785 in District G, in the southwest part of present day Lincoln County.

Joel Miller and William Miller appear in 1790 in District KKK, in the eastern end of present day Madison County. This area became part of Elbert County in 1791. [The marriage between William Mathews and Mary Jane Miller is now very much suspect.

District HHH became part of Elbert County in 1790.

William Mathews in District BB and CC is the son of early Georgia Governor George Mathews. He is quite wealthier than William Mathews that first appears in Oglethorpe County; who had moved from North Carolina; who first appears in Georgia in 1799/1800; and who died in 1819.
