MADISON COUNTY, GEORGIA

KING FAMILY DISCUSSION

This document provides a summary of selected King Family Members. The purpose of this file is to (1) summarize family groups when possible; (2) provide insight to help distinguish between family members with the same given name appearing at about the same time as each other; (3) pull together records of family groups that cross county lines; (4) point out where certain family members that changed counties came from or went to; and (5) draw some conclusions, both obvious and non-obvious based upon factual evidence. Speculation and theories will be kept to a minimum to avoid turning today’s speculation into tomorrow’s fact. Should you have comments to add, please submit them to davidhr@hushmail.com.

The letters and numbers code after a name is the www.familysearch.org Family Tree ID Number.

Note: The vast majority of King family members in Madison Co. descend either from John B. King or his brother Cason King. Their father James King moved to Cabell Co. in present day West Virginia and died there leaving a will naming both John B. King and Cason King as well as his wife and other siblings.

Cason King, aka Carson King - KD9R-Y1Z

Cason King was b. abt. 1803 in Pittsylvania Co., VA abt. 1856 in Madison Co., GA. He m. 17 Nov 1823 in Pittsylvania, Virginia to Sarah Lester.. He left a will in Madison Co. naming his children: James J. King, Mary E. Berryman (wife of Gilson F. Berryman), Lucy M. King, John W. King, Martha A. E. King, William H. King, Nancy T. House (wife of [Brinkley] House).

John B. King - LY33-M5J

John B. King was b, abt. 1800 in Campbell Co., VA and d. after 1875 in Madison Co., GA. He m. 3 Nov 1822 in Madison Co., GA to Mary Hall, daughter of Jeremiah Hall. He is a very interesting character. There is ample evidence that he liked to bed women other than his wife. There is no telling how many children he had out of wedlock. (The best way to track them down will be through aDNA from Ancestry, FTDNA or other simar testing companies.) It appears he was divorced although I have never looked hard enough to find the record. He nor Mary had an estate when they died. Fortunately, on 3 Dec 1878, she made a gift of 100 acres to her children, naming each of them (James W. King, Estate of, Nancy J. McEwen, Mary Queen, John S. King, Estate of, William S. King, Estate of, Rosanna Hall, Sarah E. Guest & Barbara A. Nichols).
