BRUCE FAMILY DISCUSSION

This document provides a summary of selected Bruce Family Members. The purpose of this file is to (1) summarize family groups when possible; (2) provide insight to help distinguish between family members with the same given name appearing at about the same time as each other; (3) pull together records of family groups that cross county lines; (4) point out where certain family members that changed counties came from or went to; and (5) draw some conclusions, both obvious and non-obvious based upon factual evidence. Speculation and theories will be kept to a minimum to avoid turning today’s speculation into tomorrow’s fact. Should you have comments to add, please submit them to davidhr@hushmail.com.

The letters and numbers code after a name is the www.familysearch.org Family Tree ID Number.

Walter H. Bruce - LHPM-2DT

Introduction. In approximately 1962, at age 14, I first became interested in my family roots. My great grandmother Adora Ellis Bruce Crisler, a great granddaughter of Walter H. Bruce gave me quite a bit of information. She was born 7 September 1875 and died 8 June 1965. Her memory and mental faculties were excellent until the day she died. I wrote the information she gave me on index cards. I never saw any source materials she had nor inquired about the sources of her information. After she and my grandmother passed away, I found some hand written notes and charts in her papers that apparently were her only records.

The information she had on the Bruce line started with Walter H. Bruce and his Wife Mary David. She had both of their birth dates and the names of their fathers only — Thomas H. Bruce and Peter David. I started seriously researching my ancestry in 1975. None of my research has conflicted with the information she gave me. Much of her information has been confirmed by my research. I have come to accept her information as gospel.

Walter H. Bruce left very little in the way of records. His family group has been put together using circumstantial evidence coupled with a few tidbits of more substantial evidence. One thing that has been helpful is the fact that his was the only Bruce Family in Madison County, GA while his family grew up there.

Based upon a slim thread of yDNA evidence, I am of the belief he was b. in Culpeper Co., VA and was the son of Thomas H. Bruce who settled in Greenville Dt., SC.

She was the dau. of William Vaughan and Keziah David. Neither James nor Perlina Keziah left an estate, but some proof of relationships can be found in deed records. All of their children can be found in either the 1880 or 1900 census. I knew two of her children quite well and knew a lot about all of the rest from family stories.
