PETER DAVID CEMETERY P. David 23 Sept 1787 22 June 1870 E. David 11 Jan 1784 Aug 1852 L. M. David 12 Mar 1829 22 Sept 1864 This cemetery was abstracted ca 1980 by David H. Robertson. At the time, to reach this cemetery, you would start in Carlton and take Highway 72 toward Elberton. Then turn left on East Paoli Road. Take East Paoli Road .55 miles and turn left on County Road 298 (This road no longer exist). Go south on County Road 298 .225 miles. Then go east on a dirt farm drive 500 feet. Then turn north along a fence line 100 feet. The cemetery was 20 feet west from the fence line on a small ridge. The site had not been maintained and was overgrown with small and large trees. The above three graves were rock crypts. There were a few more graves marked only with a rock. David Robertson, through his research, has identified the above three parties as Peter David, Elizabeth David and Lewis M. David. Elizabeth’s maiden name was Stephens. There is an unrecorded marriage bond in Elbert County loose papers dated 20 November, 1808 taken out by Peter David and William David for the marriage of Peter David to Betsy Stephens. The marriage license was never returned to the courthouse for recording in the marriage books. |
