The first Hall in the present day Elbert County area was William Hall. He lived in the very northern end of Elbert County next to Franklin Co. The following records lead inescapably to the conclusion that the William Hall that first appeared in Wilkes County, Georgia had some connection to Pennsylvania and later migrated to Alabama. There is nothing to suggest any relation to the Hall's from Halifax County, Virginia, by way of Anderson County, South Carolina that arrived later in lived a relatively short distance to the southeast. 10 Mar 1795. William Hall was a Justice of the Peace in Franklin County. Franklin County, Georgia Deed Book L, Page 67. 8 Mar 1796. William Hall of Franklin County, Georgia sold to Benjamin Springer 200 acres (originally granted William Hall) on Deep Creek for 37£ 10 sh. Witnesses: John Parker and Aaron Parker. Recorded 16 Mar 1799. Elbert County, Georgia Deed Book E, Page 144. Michal Martin Farmer, Elbert County, Georgia Deed Books A - J, 1791-1806, page 174. 19 Apr 1796. William Hall, Josiah Alcorn and Elijah Alcorn gave a power of attorney to Robert Cowden to seek all money, real estate, etc. entitled to in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Witnesses: James Bell, J.P. and Robert Barnwell. Recorded 19 Apr 1796. Elbert County, Georgia Deed Book C, Page 102. Michal Martin Farmer, Elbert County, Georgia Deed Books A - J, 1791-1806, page 41. 9 Nov 1799. William Hall & his wife Jean sold 140 acres on Little Rice Creek to John Lowrey. The land was Adj. Josiah Alcorn. Franklin County, Georgia Deed Book L, Page 67. 29 Jul 1809. William Hall & his wife Jane sold 105 acres on Little Rice Creek to Squire Markham. Witnesses: Elijah Allcorn, Josiah Hall and Elijah Hall. Franklin County, Georgia Deed Book T, Page 13. 29 Jul 1809. William Hall & his wife Jane sold 35 acres on Little Rice Creek to Edmund Lovvorn. Witnesses: Elijah Allcorn, Squire Markham and Elijah Hall. Franklin County, Georgia Deed Book HH, Page 71. 4 Nov 1817. William Hall of sold 71 acres on Rice Creek to John Redwine. Franklin County, Georgia Deed Book B, Page 214. 15 Feb 1821. William Hall of St. Clair County, Alabama sold 300 acres (it being the remainder of a 575 acre tract) on Rice Creek to Joshua Hearne. Franklin County, Georgia Deed Book B, Page 416. Note: Little Rice Creek is just west of Royston, Georgia in the southeast corner of present day Franklin County, near the intersection of present day Elbert, Hart, Franklin and Madison Counties. The above records lead to the conclusion that the William Hall that first appeared in Wilkes County was from Pennsylvania and later migrated to Alabama. There is nothing to suggest any relation to the HALL's from Halifax County, Virginia, by way of Anderson County South, Carolina that arrived later in lived a relatively short distance to the southeast. |
