Research Summary - Isaac James Newton

Isaac James Newton was born ca 1839 in Madison Co., FL. He was the son of Jeptha Newton and Rachel Newton. (Rachel’s maiden name was Newton. She was the daughter of Isaac Newton and Elizabeth Bland of New Hanover Co., NC.) In 1863 in Brooks Co., GA, he was married to Sarah Ann Duckworth, the daughter of Jacob Randolph Duckworth and Susan Phillips. Isaac James died in 1866 in Brooks Co., GA leaving a young widow and two infant sons. After he died Sarah Ann Duckworth married James Harrison Tillman and had several more children.

The children of Isaac and Sarah were:

•Isaac Newton, b. 28 June, 1864, Brooks Co., GA, d. 30 September, 1891, Colquitt County, GA, married 11 February, 1886 to Emma Lula Rogers, daughter of Aaron Rogers and Emma Cooper.

•James D. Newton, b. ca 1866, Brooks Co., GA, d. after 1900, married 18 March, 1900 in Colquitt Co, GA to Georgia Tillman

3 Dec 1866. J.R. Duckworth made application for widow’s support on behalf of the widow and children (unnamed) of Isaac J. Newton. No real estate was involved. three appraiser were appointed 7 December, 1866. The petition was approved and recorded on 21 August, 1867. Brooks Co., GA Widow’s Support Book A, page 32.

28 Aug 1866. Ann E. Newton, widow of Isaac J. Newton applied to be appointed administratrix. Advertised in the Quitman Banner. Brooks Co, GA Ordinary Minutes Book A, p. 305.

1 Oct 1866. Sarah Ann Newton, administratrix requested 12 months support. Appointed appraisers and granted request to sell perishable property. Brooks Co, GA Ordinary Minutes Book A, p. 316.

6 Jan 1868. Sarah A. E. Newton has intermarried with Harrison Tillman and is discharged as Executrix. Brooks Co, GA Ordinary Minutes Book A, p. 395.

Nov Term 1868. Jacob R. Duckworth was appointed administrator of the estate of Isaac J. Newton. Brooks County, GA Letters of Administration 1859-1888, Vol. 1, p .261.

4 Jan 1869. Annual Return for the estate of Isaac J. Newton shows the sale of Cotton for $241.20. Filed by Sarah Ann E. Newton, administratrix. No distributions were made. Brooks Co., GA Annual Return Book C, p. 571.
